Food Intolerance – ImuPro

Introduction

Food intolerance is a detrimental reaction to a food, beverage, food additive, or compound found in foods that produces symptoms in one or more body organs and systems. Food allergies are immune reactions, involving mast cells in which food triggers release of mast cell mediators, such as histamine when the food allergen binds to pre-formed IgE antibodies already bound to the mast cell. This mechanism causes allergies to typically give immediate reaction (a few minutes to a few hours) to foods. There are numerous causes for other types of food sensitivities, most of which, in contrast to food allergies, cause delayed hypersensitivity reactions to the food.

Food intolerances can be classified according to their mechanism. Intolerance can result from the absence of specific chemicals or enzymes needed to digest a food substance, as in hereditary fructose intolerance. It may be a result of an abnormality in the body’s ability to absorb nutrients, as occurs in fructose malabsorption.

Food intolerance may present as any of the following symptoms:

  • Flatulence
  • Constipation
  • Diahorrea
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Headaches
  • Skin problems (psoriasis)
  • Joint pains
  • Chronic tiredness
  • Intolerance to certain foods

ImuPro series identifies IgG antibodies against as many as 270 different foods and determine if these IgG antibodies are present in high or low amounts. You will be able to know which foods you are allergic to.

ImuPro food intolerance test originates from Germany and is currently the leading brand for food intolerance test globally.

HIV SD BIOLINE HIV Ag/Ab Combo Rapid Test

Introduction

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a lentivirus (a subgroup of retrovirus) that causes HIV infection and over time acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is a condition in humans in which progressive failure of the immune system allows life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Without treatment, average survival time after infection with HIV is estimated to be 9 to 11 years, depending on the HIV subtype. Infection with HIV occurs by the transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, pre-ejaculate, or breast milk. Within these bodily fluids, HIV is present as both free virus particles and virus within infected immune cells.

HIV infects vital cells in the human immune system such as helper T cells (specifically CD4+ T cells), macrophages, and dendritic cells. HIV infection leads to low levels of CD4+ T cells through a number of mechanisms, including pyroptosis of abortively infected T cells, apoptosis of uninfected bystander cells, direct viral killing of infected cells, and killing of infected CD4+ T cells by CD8 cytotoxic lymphocytes that recognize infected cells. When CD4+ T cell numbers decline below a critical level, cell-mediated immunity is lost, and the body becomes progressively more susceptible to opportunistic infections.

Device : HIV SD BIOLINE HIV Ag/Ab Combo Rapid Test

This is a HIV 4th generation one-step immunochromatographic assay / rapid test designed to detect HIV p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV-1 and / or HIV-2 simultaneously.

There is earlier detection of seroconversion as HIV p24 antigen can be detected about 6 days before antibody are detected. (ie 14 days after infection) This is only existing test in the market that can detect HIV p24 antigen as early as 2 weeks.

The result will be ready by 15 to 20 minutes.

The specificity and sensitivity of the test are 99.2% and 100.0% respectively.

Only a small amount of blood is required.

Influenza - SD Influenza Antigen A/B/A(H1N1) Pandemic Antigen Rapid Test

Introduction

Influenza, commonly known as “the flu”, is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe. The most common symptoms include: a high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, and feeling tired. These symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and most last less than a week.

Complications of influenza may include viral pneumonia, secondary bacterial pneumonia, sinus infections, and worsening of previous health problems such as asthma or heart failure.

Influenza spreads around the world in a yearly outbreak, resulting in about three to five million cases of severe illness and about 250,000 to 500,000 deaths. In the 20th century three influenza pandemics occurred: Spanish influenza in 1918, Asian influenza in 1958, and Hong Kong influenza in 1968, each resulting in more than a million deaths. The World Health Organization declared an outbreak of a new type of influenza A/H1N1 to be a pandemic in June 2009.

The infection may be confirmed by testing the throat, sputum, or nose for the virus. A number of rapid tests are available.

Device : SD Influenza Antigen A/B/A(H1N1) Pandemic Antigen Rapid Test

This is a one-step immunochromatographic assay designed to detect Influenza Antigen A/B/A(H1N1) antigen. Due to the high specificity of SD Influenza Ag pandemic A(H1N1) rapid test, the samples shows as positive by this rapid testing can be interpreted as influenza pandemic A(H1N1) without additional confirmatory assay. Hence this will save time and costs and we can start early treatment for the patients.

The result will be ready by 15 to 20 minutes.

The specificity and sensitivity of the test are 76.8% and 100.0% respectively.

There is no blood test required and only nasal or throat swab are necessary.
